You are working in a wealth management firm and you are required to provide the best
investments for two of your clients. Each client has a different risk tolerance level.
First, identify the needs of two different types of clients and develop a Private
Placement Memorandum (PPM) for each.
You are required to create a portfolio for each client that can meet their investment
objectives. The two index funds will comprise of 4 US sector indices that are combined
in an appropriate mix to provide an optimal portfolio for each of your clients.
Create a portfolio based on weekly returns over the period January 2015 to December
2019.
Then show how each portfolio you have created for your clients has performed in
practice over a test period from January 2020 to December 2020.
Recommend some minor modifications (asset allocation decision) after monitoring.
The task requirement:
a) Provide a clear and complete statement of the investment objectives and policies
for your actively managed portfolios.

b) Review all markets and by utilising a clear audit trail justify the selection of
your sector indices as investment candidates. Use journal articles to source out
contemporary selection methodologies. Databases (Yahoo Finance, Google)
need to be used to gather data-sets on individual funds. Determine accurately,
the statistical information you will need for section c).

c) Critically describe the underlying portfolio theory and methodology of the
portfolio construction process.

d) Using an appropriate benchmark, appraise the performance of this fund over
the investment period and suggest any revisions or any modifications to the
portfolio that may be required after a performance evaluation. Finally, at the
end of your holding period provide a critique of the methodology.

e) Marks will also be awarded for report writing skills, analytical skills,
research that will demonstrate review of theory and application of techniques.
